Anti-CAA leader arrested for hurting religious sentiments

At the anti-CAA rally in Benaulim, Jalmi had called Hindu God Parshuram a terrorist

PANJIM/PONDA: The Crime Branch on Sunday arrested Ramakrishna Jalmi for his alleged hate speech at the anti-CAA rally in Benaulim following a State-wide criticism for calling Hindu God Parshuram a terrorist.

SP Crime Branch Pankaj Kumar said Jalmi has been arrested under Sections 295 (A) and 153 A of the IPC for hurting religious sentiments through his speech.

Jalmi was one of the speakers at the anti-CAA rally as Dando grounds, Benaulim on Saturday. 

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) sent a WhatsApp message stating, “Crime Branch arrests Ramakrishna Jalmi for making hate speech at anti-CAA rally”.

Earlier in the day, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti members filed a complaint against Jalmi for allegedly calling Lord Parshuram a terrorist.

Ramkrishna had said, “Parshuram has been portrayed as God as he belonged to a particular caste! But in reality, he is a terrorist just like bin Laden!”

Satyavijay Naik in his complaint stated that Ramkrishna made derogatory remarks against Lord Parshuram, who they believed created the land of Goa. Jalmi, at the anti-CAA meeting had said, “Parshuram came here from Greece. He destroyed the coastal belt and ruined the farming community 16 times.”

The complainant demanded that action be initiated against Ramkrishna Jalmi under Sections 295A and 153A of the IPC for hurting religious sentiments by portraying Lord Parshuram as terrorist at the anti-CAA meet in Benaulim on February 29.
