Saligao face Nagoa in finals

Saligao United Sports Club secured a berth in the finals of 37th Bandodkar Memorial Soccer Tournament organized by Baina Sports Club shooting out holders United Club of Nerul vie the tie- breaker 4-2 at MPT ground, here on Wednesday.
There was no score during the regulation time.
M.A. Francis, Trevor Dias, Nestor Dias and Martinho Fernandes scored for Saligao while Alfred Rodrigues’s try was saved by Siddesh Morje, the Nerul keeper. For United club of Nerul only Agnelo Lobo and Newton Pereira were successful in converting their tries while Benit D’Souza and Avinash Pereira’s tries were saved by Dietman Fernandes, who was later declared man-of-the match.
Earlier, the teams struggled to go into the lead due to the water logged conditions.
Hasan Naik, Newton Pereira and Syden Monteiro of Nerul raided the Saligao area but their moves were nipped in the bud by the able defense consisting Cleton Rodrigues, Mahesh Rane and Trevor Dias.
After change of ends, Xavier Clemente’s solo effort was beautifully saved by diving Dietman Fernandes of Saligao. Midway in the second half Trevor Dias of Saligao had all the time in the world to shoot in the unguarded goal. Trevor Dias ran solo and sent a powerful shot towards Nerul’s goal. Onrushing keeper Siddesh Morje fell down and lost control but Trevor, instead of just tapping it, blasted over.
Dietman was presented the man-of-the match award by Mahesh Gaonkar, DSP.
Referee Rohidas Bomkar flashed the yellow card to Sydan Monteiro of Nerul for a dangerous tackle.
Saligao will meet Nagoa Sporting Club in the finals on June 27.
