MARGAO: Shadow Council of Margao has accused the Margao Municipal Council of criminally neglecting vehicles in its possession resulting in huge loss of the tax payers money due to the amount spent on repairs of the vehicles and demanded an immediate stop to this negligence.
Convener of Shadow Council of Margao Savio Coutinho pointed out that the garbage compactor that was repaired a few days back broke down about 10 days back and is lying at the Sonsodo garbage dump site with the collected garbage inside it.
“Seeing the compactor with the garbage lying at the dump site makes one wonder whether that is some kind of garbage itself,” said Savio while pointing out that to make matters worse another compactor that was given a fitness certificate yesterday broke down on the road today.
He said the vehicles are not being maintained properly due to which expensive vehicles are forced to the scrap yard within a short span of time and lamented that while the MMC complains of shortage of vehicles to collect waste, it is not maintaining the vehicles it has.
He also revealed that the spare tyres and parts of the rickshaws purchased recently to collect garbage have gone missing and demanded that this be enquired into and the person responsible for these parts missing be penalized.
He also demanded that the compactor be immediately repaired and put back on road and further demanded that the expenditure incurred be recovered from the person responsible for its breakdown soon after its repairs.
