PANJIM: The Goa police is drawing up a strategy to crackdown on illegal activities in hotels across Goa following the recent raid on an alleged ‘prostitution racket’ at a Campal-based hotel, this week.
After the incident that took place in Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s constituency ~ who is also the Home minister, Director General of Police Kishan Kumar has instructed the men in khaki to keep a close watch for and report suspicious activities happening in any hotel, to their higher ups for action.
“We will keep a check on all the hotels and if any suspicious activity is detected, raids will be conducted and arrests made,” he said.
Six girls from Punjab, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gaziabad and Chattisgarh were rescued during the raid at Hotel Viva Goa International. Uttar Pradesh legislator
Mahendra Singh was among six accused arrested under the Anti-Prostitution Act. All are presently in police custody till September 2.
Another senior officer said they have also instructed the local intelligence bureau officials and beat police to report about any such activity taking place in the commercial establishments. “If the illegality is proven on verification immediate action will be taken,” he said.
Meanwhile, the MLA who was admitted to Goa Medical College Friday was discharged the following day. Singh had complained of chest pain. The Panjim police had arranged strict security around the hospital. Police said he is back in police custody along with the other five accused.
