PANJIM: Copper coins which were found buried in a cashew farm by a farmer Vishnu Joshi at Nanoda in Sattari taluka were handed over to the Archaeology department on Wednesday.
Joshi handed over the coins to Archaeology Minister Subhash Phal Dessai in the presence of officials of the Archaeology department at Nanoda, Sattari.

There were 826 coins that were stored inside an earthen pot and as per the preliminary study by experts it is tentatively dating back to the 17th century. Joshi discovered these copper coins a fortnight ago when he was cleaning his cashew farm. When he dug it out and opened it, he found coins. He later decided to hand them over to the Archaeology Department.
Phal Dessai said that the Archaeology Department will conduct a detail research and after analytical analysis will submit a report to the State government. He hoped that the research would throw more light on Goa’s history.
