PANJIM: Goa Medical College will commission three wards exclusively for extremely critical COVID patients from Monday. The government had earlier decided to shift most of the critical patients from the COVID hospital to GMC.
Addressing the media after the expert committee meeting, Rane said that the Health Department is taking all possible steps to prevent deaths.

“Ward no 145, 146 and 147 will be commissioned from Monday at GMC with ventilators and HFNO machines to treat critical COVID patients,” he said.
Reacting to the Herald expose on procurement of medicines and equipment for COVID-19 management, Rane on Friday reiterated that there would be no compromise on the quality of materials purchased by the government.
“We have done everything with Cabinet approvals. There was a time we were struggling to get PPEs. Today we have installed 192 ventilators. Everything has been done with Cabinet approvals,” he said.
He further said that the Centre has allowed the suspension of Finance rules for COVID-19 purchases. “The ventilators will be used post COVID in other hospitals, they are not going to go waste,” he said.
Rane further said that GMC has also helped private hospitals. “We have provided plasma and also ventilators to the private hospitals. It is finally question of life,” he said.
