It is extremely distressing to note that the rear side of Benaulim Panchayat ghar is used as a garbage dump by the village authorities. Trash in polythene bags as well as in lose piles is strewn around the premises. The front of the panchayat ghar houses a milk distribution centre and the post office. In the times of COVID-19 pandemic, the public premises should be maintained spotlessly clean to prevent the spread of the virus but the opposite seems to be the case here.
Feral dogs and pigs have a free run of the dump yard, spreading litter and disease all over. With hundreds of people visiting the panchayat ghar every day it is anybody’s guess as to what effect the stored garbage shall have on public health. I request the civic authorities to dispose of this garbage as soon as possible.
