MARGAO: The former deputy chief minister and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has asked the officials to solve the municipal dry waste problem or face protests like the recent one in Porvorim.
Stating that media has been reporting that Margao is facing dry waste problem, Sardesai said, “There is an expectation that the elected representatives have to participate in the Council meeting.”
“I have observed that they require six more baling machines in Margao. They have to acquire them and install them. They will take Council decision today for that and have mentioned that the procedure is very simple and it can be completed within 10-15 days,” he said.
“They write to the Solid Waste Management Corporation to pay for it and the Corporation sends it to them. Now, if the machine comes where do we install it? Hence, the council has given three lands — one is the Kadamba Transport Corporation bus stand, second at T B Hospital and third at MMC old market area where we want to have MMC bioremediation plant,” he said.
“I spoken to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida too, he said that he is ready to do it for Margao. The chief officer has to show Google picture for the land. We are asking the government for a minimum period of six months,” he said.
Warning the government officials, Sardesai said, “If some government officials try to play fool and pass time, then, we can do the same thing in Margao which we did in Porvorim and everyone will have to bear the brunt of it.”
