PANJIM: Days after West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh sparked controversy by stating that “beef eaters should eat street dogs”, the Mahila Congress in Goa has urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to organise “dog meat” party for his Ministers and MLAs from minority community.
Addressing media persons on Thursday, Goa Mahila Congress Committee President Pratima Coutinho condemned Ghosh for his statement and accused him of trying to create “communal disharmony”. It demanded that he should apologies to the people of India, especially those, who eat beef as part of their diet.
“You must practice what you preach and hence we demand the Chief Minister to hold dog meat party for his Ministers and MLAs, who consume beef. Let us see whether they can have street dog meat. If not, then the Chief Minister should also apologise to the minority community in Goa,” Coutinho demanded.
She termed the statement of Ghosh as “insensitive” and “senseless”.
The Congress leader accused him of trying to create politics of hearted in the name of religion. “Ghosh’s statement is an attempt to provoke Hindus against minorities. It is a move to create communal disharmony. When the BJP talks of one nation one constitution, then it should not have such different policies on diet,” she said.
Countinho said that in a democratic country like India, it is a fundamental right of every citizen to choose his or her diet, what he or she should wear and the lifestyle.
Meanwhile, the Mahila Congress has extended its support to protesting lifeguards, whose services have been terminated by Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd and demanded that government should bring the service within its ambit.
