MARGAO: A.A. De Majorda threw up a goal feast as they clobbered host Union of Chinchinim Villagers 5-0 and enter the semi-finals of all-Goa Chichinim Villagers Trophy inter-village football tournament, organized by Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at Church ground, Chinchinim, Monday.
Majorda led 3-0 at the lemon break. The highlight of the day was a brilliant brace piece by Naveen Mendes and Allister Monteiro.
Majorda dominated the game and in the 9th minute Newton Miranda slotted past the rival goalkeeper with clinical finish.
Spurred by the early success, Majorda tormented the rival weak defence with well orchestrated raids. Naveen, who was in thick of action, doubled the lead when he punted the ball to the far corner the net.
Down by 0-2, a lot was expected from Union of Chinchinim Villagers today as they were subdued and failed to function as a cohesive unit and hardly tested the rival goalkeeper.
In the 21st minute, Allister put the issue beyond doubt for Majorda when he beat the rival goalkeeper with rasping shot.
Post resumption, Majorda continued to enjoy the lion’s share of exchanges and kept their opponents on the back foot. Naveen struck second time to complete his brace soon after resumption. Allister drove the last nail into rival coffin late in the second half to register his brace.
