PANJIM: Eight Goa Football Association members on Saturday demanded removal of the general secretary Welwin Menezes from his post to maintain sanctity of the GFA election process.
“In order to maintain sanctity of the election process it is necessary to remove the present general secretary as it is a serious issue of conflict of interest, taking in to consideration that Welwin is contesting for the post of executive member, Ilhas zone”, said a letter made by the members to the GFA President Elvis Gomes.
The letter further says, “It is a clear cut case of Welwin being allowed to gain unfair advantage since he is in a position to influence the collective members, which are part of the Electoral College. And in fact Welwin is also part of the Electoral College being the president of Goa Velha Sports Club and still continues to be in charge of GFA competitions/leagues”.
“It is unfair and totally unethical that Welwin still continues to be part of the administration. Furthermore he is issuing instructions and directions to the staff and is still a signing authority for administrative purpose and a signatory for the purpose of banking transactions of the GFA”, the letter adds.
The letter has been made by Lavinio Rebello, Babli Mandrekar, Dominic Pereira, Digvijai Velingkar, Gregory Dsouza, John Fernandes, Francisco Araujo and Laxman Hadfadkar.
