Vasco: The total of fatalities within 21 days from the Vasco area reached a two digit figure of 11 on Monday. Most of these cases have the old age related issue or in most of the cases deceased reportedly had co-morbid conditions.
It started with a 58-year-old with heart problem from Khariwado. His wife was also tested COVID positive and is undergoing treatment in the hospital. It was left to the son and daughter of the couple to juggle between grieving for their father and praying for their mother.
Councilor of Mangor Hill ward 17, Pascoal D’souza of Mormugao Municipal Council passed away on Saturday midnight due to CoVID related health complications. He was initially found COVID positive and was admitted in MPT COVID care center at Headland Sada, and subsequently was shifted to CoVID hospital, Margao. He succumbed to COVID-19 on Saturday midnight. He was in ICU on ventilator. He was the elder brother of former minister Jose Philip.
A 50-year-old cab driver from Vasco died due to CoVID-19 related health complications on Wednesday midnight in Goa Medical College hospital. He was tested positive for the CoVID-19, followed by a 42-year-old person residing in Khariwado who died after suffering from the CoVID infection.
Three fatalities due to CoVID-19 were reported on July 11 which actually set off alarm bells. One 81-year-old person from Mangor died in ESI Hospital, Margao early morning. Another 31-year-old youth from Baina with reportedly co-morbid conditions succumbed too and then one 74-year-old lady from Jetty Sada area who was admitted in GMC few days ago due to fever like symptoms, also died in the CoVID hospital.
One old lady from Chicalim village was also a victim.
One 47-year-old lady who is the resident of Mangor Hill (outside the containment zone) was admitted in the CoVID hospital a few days ago and her family members were also reportedly admitted in CoVID care center. On Monday morning she passed away at the ESI Hospital, Margao. She is believed to have been suffering from cancer and was taking treatment since 6 years.
Then from Belabai-Vasco, wherein a 60-year-old man who was tested positive for CoVID-19 few days ago and was undergoing treatment for the infection lost his battle to this infection on Monday morning at ESI Hospital, Margao.
And finally for this 58-year-old man from Varunapuri-Vasco, death came first, his COVID results came later. He was working in the Military Engineering Services (MES) and got ill on Monday early morning. He was then reportedly taken to Chicalim sub district hospital wherein doctors reportedly declared him brought dead. His swab test was conducted post his demise where it was found that he was COVID positive.
A string of bad luck, Vasco-ites would like to believe and lament, a trend that certainly needs to stop, to keep a lid on any alarm and panic.
