MARGAO: The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded that the authorities look into the issue of contaminated water being supplied to Salcete, which has been widely reported by the media. AAP has also demanded that clean drinking water be provided to consumers within a week, and has threatened to stage an agitation with the consumers if the PWD fails to solve the problems.
In a letter to the PWD, water supply division, AAP stated, “The issue, if not looked into by your department, which is responsible for supplying drinking water, may lead to a health hazard. Dengue, which is a water-borne disease, is on the rise in many parts of Salcete, including Cuncolim, and therefore, it is paramount that your department takes the issue seriously and takes immediate measures to supply safe drinking water to the consumers.”
The letter further stated, “The presence of contaminants in the water can lead to adverse health effects, including gastrointestinal illness, reproductive problems, and neurological disorders. Infants, children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people whose immune systems are compromised because of AIDS, chemotherapy, or transplant medications, may be especially susceptible to illness due to contaminants.”
Over the last several weeks, Herald has been highlighting the issue of muddy and contaminated water being supplied to consumers, and there are more cases coming to light in several places of Salcete.
