Panchayat member Rakhi Naik lamented that the department has ignored her requests to replace the damaged electricity pole.

“It is quite shocking that the engineer is not taking any action, even though the pole is in a residential area where a number of senior citizens reside and children play around,” Rakhi claimed.

“It appears that the department will act only when a tragedy occurs,” she quipped.

The villagers also pointed out that at many places, live electricity wires are tied to trees as there are no poles.
