CALANGUTE: The new owners of the famous Jimmy Gazder property at Sinquerim are carrying out an illegal construction in a no-development zone involving hill-cutting, the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) has alleged in a memorandum to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).

The construction, ongoing in survey no 88/0 at Sinquerim, close to the Fort Aguada jail museum, does not have a construction licence from the Candolimpanchayat, the CCF said.
Candolimpanchayat secretary RajendraGawas, in a reply on May 17 to an RTI application by the CCF, stated: “As per the construction register maintained by this office, this panchayat not issued construction licence to Redd Villas & Resorts Pvt Ltd in survey no. 88 at Sinquerim, Candolim.”
According to the CCF, the proposed construction had been rejected by the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) as per NGPDA/CAN/44/38 way back in 2015 when the then owner of the seaside property, Jimmy Gazder, had applied to the NGPDA for reconstruction of a house in the property.
“The NGPDA had rejected the application as the project is in total violation of prevailing rules and regulations. The plot has a slope of more than 60% and it is NDZ area. The project has a risk of ecological disaster due to massive hill-cutting,” CCF has stated, while adding that the current owner of the property has restarted construction activity in the same property in survey no. 88.
“The construction should be immediately stopped and the land restored to its original state,” CCF president PremanandDivkar stated in the memorandum.
