PANJIM: Vigilance Director Amarsen Rane has gone on leave for three months. Sources said Rane was upset over the appointment of the new superintendent of police at Anti-Corruption Branch who is an IPS officer.
Rane was also upset over the Goa Police’s and State government’s direct interference and bypassing the Vigilance department over the transfer of the police officers from ACB.
In recent past there has been a tussle between Goa Police and the Vigilance director as a couple of police officers were transferred without proper approval from the Vigilance department. There was also correspondence between the Vigilance department and Goa Police, which Herald has accessed, clearly indicating that Goa Police was directly interfering with the functioning of ACB.
Sources at the Secretariat said that Rane had even met Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar with regard to the issues, had expressed his displeasure and requested a transfer from the department.
However, soon after that Rane surprisingly went on a long leave. The reason for the leave is unknown.
ACB in past had also trapped the chief minister’s brother-in-law who is a field officer at GIDC and arrested him while accepting a bribe to hand over an industrial plot to a pharmaceutical company.
