PANJIM: Directing the Goa Government to put in “more efforts” to “expeditiously finalise” the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) 2011, the National Coastal Zone Management Authority (NCZMA) has asked the State to initiate the process to update or revise the CZMP, as per CRZ 2019 in a bid to save time.
NCZMA at its meeting held on April 5 noted that the State government is expected to submit the final CZMP 2011, for approval by May this year.

The National authority also pointed out that until and unless the CZMP is revised or updated, the provisions of the CRZ notification 2019 will not be applicable in the coastal States and provisions of CRZ 2011 will continue to be followed for appraisal and CRZ clearances for any requisite projects.
During the meeting, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) informed that the public hearings on the draft CZMP have been completed and consolidations of stakeholders’ comments are in progress. It was further informed that the plan will be finalised at the earliest possible and submitted to the Union Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for further consideration.
“The NCZMA noted the submission of GCZMA and expressed that more efforts are required by the State for expeditious finalisation of the CZMP 2011,” the minutes of the meeting mentioned, adding that the report is expected to be submitted by May.
“NCZMA also desired that the State should endeavour to take up simultaneous exercise for updation or revision as per CRZ 2019 of the plan to avoid repetition of process and saving of time,” it added further.
