CANACONA: Traffic was disrupted while property was damaged after a number of trees got uprooted due to heavy rains in Canacona taluka on Tuesday. The taluka observatory recorded over 5 inches of rainfall on Tuesday.
According to sources, the NH-17 at Shristhal was blocked for about half-an-hour after a tree came crashing down on the road. Fire personnel cleared the tree and restored traffic along the route.
A huge jackfruit tree fell on the house of Ulhas Jaganath Naik at Nuem-Khola early Tuesday morning, completely damaging one side of the house. Fire personnel estimated the loss at about Rs 90,000.
In another incident, two coconut trees came crashing down on the house of Mohan Kamat at Patnem. Fire personnel rushed to the site and cleared it. The loss is yet to be ascertained, informed fire service sources.
Fire sources informed that a cashew tree blocked a road to Shri Mallikarjun Temple at Shristhal before it was cleared and traffic restored.
At Mastimol, a tree crashed on the compound wall and blocked the road.
Meanwhile, Canacona taluka has recorded seasonal total of about 1,050 mm of rainfall.
