PANJIM: The residents of Panjim and many parts of Tiswadi Taluka faced hardships on Friday as taps ran dry due to breakdown of the Opa water supply pipeline at Corlim.
The people had to depend on water tankers and many purchased mineral water bottles for drinking and cooking as there was no water supply throughout the day. Most of the areas of Tiswadi are heavily dependent on the PWD water supply. Goa has already started experiencing water scarcity.
When contacted, PWD executive engineer N P Parsekar assured to release the water as soon as the pipeline was repaired. He stuck to his word and water supply was restored on Friday night much to the relief of the consumers.
Meanwhile, there will be restricted water supply to Anjuna-Caisua, Chapora, Vagator, parts of Sangolda, Arpora-Nagoa, Grand Morod, Parra and parts of Calangute on Saturday, June 3, due to urgent maintenance work of 500 mm dia conveying main pipeline at Guirim.
The PWD has requested the consumers to bear the inconvenience caused to them.
