Mapusa Police call for fencing ponds, lakes

MAPUSA: In letter to Deputy Collector Bardez and Water Resources Department, Mapusa Police on Wednesday urged them to ensure barricading/fencing the open ponds lakes and tanks. 

Citing the recent incident wherein two siblings drowned in a pond at Verla Canca, the Mapusa police in the letter urged the authorities to prevent such incidents in future.

It may be recalled that on January 27, two minor siblings had visited a pond. It is suspected that they may have visited the pond to pluck lotus and are believed to have fallen into the water and got drowned while trying to save each other. The police in a letter stated that during investigation it was revealed that the pond had stagnant water with steps constructed on two sides and left unguarded.
