PANJIM: Goa’s educational hub will evolve around Fr Peter Rodrigues’ concept of the Verna Educational Hub, said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar while paying homage to the departed Superior of Agnel Ashram, Verna.
The Goa Assembly paid rich tribute to Fr Rodrigues during a condolence motion moved by Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral. His contribution to the growth of technical education in Goa was hailed by MLAs and ministers many of whom were students of Agnel Ashram.
Those who spoke include Alexio Reginald Lourenco, Sudin Dhavalikar, Mickky Pacheco, Mauvin Godinho, Digambar Kamat and Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane.
While Reginaldo remembered Fr Rodrigues for his exemplary services to the youth of Goa who have made careers from technical education imparted at institutions founded by Fr Rodrigues, Digambar Kamat remembered him for his simplicity. Godinho described Fr Rodrigues as a visionary and a devout spiritual leader.
Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and Mickky Pacheco also spoke of Fr Rodrigues’ service to Goan society.
His achievements in setting up Agnel Ashram, the PEC Engineering College, Catering college and now a new engineering institution at Assagao was hailed.
The House also condoled the death of film and theatre personality Shalini Mardolkar and freedom fighter Vaikund Naik. Their contribution to Goa was also hailed. A minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for these departed souls.
