PONDA: PWD employee Inacio Silva (54), who went to inspect an alleged illegal tap water connection at Dapoli Varbhat at Shiroda, was assaulted on Monday by four persons involved in tapping water illegally.
Silva is currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.
The incident took place at 11.30 am. In this connection police arrested two accused and subsequently released them on bail, while two are absconding.
Silva, a resident of Sacrebhat in Shiroda, posted at Dag Ponda. Following an order, accompanied by another worker, he had gone to inspect an illegal tap connection installed by one Sharmad.
As Silva was inspecting the tap connection and taking photos, Sharmad, one Pankaj and two others assaulted Silva due to which he suffered serious injuries on his face and body.
Later, on being informed of the incident, police rushed to the spot and took the victim Silva to GMC.
Alleging that police as well as PWD officials are neglecting to take proper action against accused, the employees protested on Tuesday outside the premises of PWD at Dag-Ponda.
They said that the PWD officials should demand strict police action into matter. The victim’s son and brother along with PWD employees have demanded action against accused.
It is learnt that PWD officials at Dag-Ponda filed complaint with police based on which police arrested the accused Sharmad and Pankaj.
Meanwhile, the PWD labour supply society employees have demanded that they be provided with proper police protection while inspecting the illegal connections installed by people.
The employees said many illegal water connections have been taken and taking action on such violators was risky without the support of PWD officials and police.
The PWD officials were not available for their comment.
