CANDOLIM: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) officials inspected an alleged development work being carried out in violation of the CRZ rules at the Candolim beach on Thursday morning.
The work is being carried out in CRZ-III area, that is, No Development Zone (NDZ) on the beach at Candolim which is close to the new car parking area.
Dr Prabhakar Shirodkar, an expert member of GCZMA who was part of the site inspection on survey No 146, pointed out that a laterite wall that is 1.5 meters in height and plinths are being constructed. The earlier structure that was built has also been demolished.
“The owner says that he has taken permission from CRZ three years ago and has an NOC for construction. This work is being undertaken within 100 meter from the HTL. To build a laterite wall here, he definitely has no permission. There was also a concrete mixer seen and plinths being constructed,” the official said.
“We have asked the person concerned to furnish all the approvals taken and necessary documents. After which I will prepare my report and we will deliberate on the same in the next GCZMA meeting. Accordingly, the mapping and survey of the property will have to be carried out,” he added.
The alleged illegal development was brought to the notice of GCZMA by a local, Roshan Mathias in a complaint on September 27.
Mathias said that the NDZ is 200 metres from the HTL and only temporary structures are permitted within this area. “When we contacted the flying squad on September 26 they came to the spot. They told us that the beach area does not come under their preview,” Mathias said.
Meanwhile, Mathias said that the office of the Bardez Deputy Collector at Mapusa and Candolim Panchayat failed to depute a representative for the site inspection although they were requested to attend the same.
