PANJIM: Slamming Goa Governor Mridula Sinha’s inclination towards the BJP, the Goa unit of Congress party has decided to knock the doors of the judiciary if she fails to invite them to stake claim to form government.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar has slammed the Governor for not adhering to the constitutional obligations as she has failed to revert on their repeated requests seeking her appointment to stake claim.
“The Governor, who is on a holiday trip to Goa, was an office-bearer of the BJP. She has forgotten her constitutional obligations, her constitutional duty because she still thinks she is an office-bearer of the BJP,” Chodankar told a press conference, little before Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar breathed his last at his residence on Sunday evening.
Congress, on Saturday, made two representations to the Governor seeking an appointment to prove majority and form the government. However with no response till date, Chodankar said they are open to legal options. “Governor did not even acknowledge that we have seeking an appointment to prove majority. We will take up the matter with the judiciary if she does not call us to stake claim,” the party president warned.
Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar equated the political crisis in the State to constitutional crisis while also slamming poor bureaucracy. “There is a constitutional crisis like situation in Goa. We want that State does not endure financial burden by way of another election in just two years of the last assembly elections in the year 2017, which is why we do not want dissolution of the House. Governor should give us a chance to complete five years of governance in the State,” he said while also alleging that bureaucracy has turned ‘pathetic.’
The Congress has also scheduled CLP meeting on Monday and Goa desk in-charge Chellakumar is also expected to arrive Goa soon.
