PONDA: Industries Minister Mahadev Naik appealed to students to opt for technical education as the Goa government was set to generate around 50,000 jobs through different industries.
He spoke at the launch of the Narendra Modi-initiated Social Security Schemes at Ponda’s old bus stand.
Naik claimed that many students were aiming for BA, BCom and BSc degrees at the moment, but in the future, there would be a larger need for technical education as the number of industries in Goa was growing. Around 50,000 jobs in different industries would be provided to Goans, especially the youth, just as former chief minister Manohar Parrikar assured. Those with technical education had a better chance of landing a job.
Naik also rued how young degree-holders in Goa pressurized their MLAs to get them government jobs. Around 5,500 applications were received for 11 posts of peons. It affected the working and concentration of the MLA.
He further stated that the Shiroda Industrial Estate would commence its operations within one year and that the process of allotting plots to companies at the Estate had already begun. Around 17,000 square metres of land has been allotted so far. The garment and related industries will also provide around 1,000 jobs for Shiroda women.
Naik also informed that the government had recently approved 38 projects worth 2,800 crore through the Investment Promotion Board. Parrikar had also given 32,000 crore worth of projects to Goa Shipyard, and it would generate around 10,000 more jobs. As such, Goa was in need of a technical workforce.
Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar and State Bank of India officials were also present at the event.
