VMC’s playground raises dust

Youth complain of dust causing irritation to the eyes; want playground to be upgraded with modern facilities; residents complain of the dust entering their houses and due to the prevailing dusty conditions; children too have fallen sick

The Valpoi Municipal Council’s playground is in bad shape with the residents complaining of dusty conditions prevailing at the site.
The youth have complained that while playing, the dust on the playground causes irritation to the eyes and have demanded that the same be upgraded with modern facilities. Besides the youth, the residents too have complained of the dust entering their houses which are located close to it. Due to the prevailing dusty conditions, children too have fallen sick.
The Valpoi Youth Club informed that it had submitted a memorandum to Valpoi Municipal Council to upgrade the ground with modern facilities. The owners of the houses located near the playground had complained to the civic body with regards to dust problem but their complaints seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
VMC chairperson Ramdas Shirodkar says, “We have no funds to upgrade the playground with modern facilities. We received Rs one crore as a golden jubilee fund and that too for infrastructure and a signature project so that civic body could generate revenue from it.”
“We had decided to use the Rs one crore amount for upgrading the municipal playground with modern facilities. We had sent a proposal to the then Parsekar-led Government regarding the upgradation of the playground.  The then government had assured to provide additional funds to upgrade the playground with best facilities for the youth,” he informed.
“We have completed all procedures and have sent a file to the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA). But the file is still pending,” he further informed.
“We have planned to provide the best sports facilities to our youth. So now, we are requesting to the present government to give us funds to upgrade the playground with modern facilities, Shirodkar added.
