PANJIM: The State’s first electric-cum-solar ferryboat, is expected to be commissioned in November.

The solar-powered ferryboat is being built by Goa-based Aquarius Shipyard Private Limited at Divar Island, at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore.
Speaking to Herald, Captain James Braganza said that the work of the solar ferry boat is expected to be completed by October and from November we will be in a position to commission it.
The hybrid boat will have an operational speed of 12 knots and a capacity of 60 passengers.
In November 2018, the delegation from Goa had visited Kerala — the first to introduce solar power passenger vessel in India — to study the prospects of introducing similar facility in Goan waters.
The main aim to run solar powered ferryboat is to avoid causing environmental damage to the rivers and their marine life.
