The 3 cm of rain recorded by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), failed to bring the much needed respite to the people, as the mercury continued to soar on Wednesday, with IMD recording a temperature of 35 Degree Celsius. The night temperatures were also above normal.
IMD has predicted heavy to moderate showers in the State for next five days, but with gaps in between. The sudden showers late Tuesday night created havoc in the State, affecting power supply plunging parts of the capital city in darkness, even after the shower ended. According to department sources, there was a problem with the 33KV line. IMD Goa in charge N Haridasan said that the Tuesday night showers were the first spell of pre-monsoon showers. “The situation would continue for some time but will not be continuous. There will be some gap,” he said.
The heavy showers accompanied by winds, lightning bolts and thunder were a result of a trough that developed over interior Maharashtra and Karnataka, which later in the evening moved towards the coast, bringing showers for all three states, Haridasan said.
Though, rainfall is predicted for the next couple of days, IMD has said that the day temperature will continue to be above normal, at around 35 Degree Celsius.
