PONDA: The drains in Dattagad, Ponda are overflowing with dirty water, and it’s causing a major nuisance to the residents. People are worried that the dirty water may spread disease in the locality.
A few days ago, people in the area brought up the problem at the community meeting in Bethora. They said that sewage water from the houses was going into the drains. Since many houses are rented out, the amount of dirty water going into the drains is huge. Now with the overflowing of drains the water is coming onto the road, emitting a foul smell in the area. People walking and driving through the area have to go through the dirty water. Local residents are worried that the bad smell could spread diseases in the area.

On the other hand, in Vaidyanagar, Ponda, about 15 to 20 houses haven’t had water for four months. People have to buy water from tankers. The government is sending water to the locality in a tanker just once a week, but that is not enough.
Parents are complaining that there’s not enough water for their kids to bathe on a daily basis. Even as there is lack of water, the water supply department is regularly dispatching bills to homeowners every month, which is a stark irony.
