PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the State Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) will begin a drive for maintenance of hygiene in the restaurants across the State in wake of the Covid-19 outbreak across the world.

After the high powered committee meeting, chaired by CM Dr Pramod Sawant, Rane said, “With the invocation of the Epidemic Act, 1897, the Health Department will frequently conduct review meetings to ensure all measures taken by us to combat the virus are systematically abided.”
“We will soon be writing to all the educational institutions to use sanitizers regularly, and disinfectants to lower the risk of spreading infection.We are tirelessly working on specific guidelines on how to deal with these situations,” he said.
He further said that Goa being a tourist destination with numerous footfalls, State must ensure that all the safety measures are followed rigorously.
“Restaurants and hotels must have strict compliance in terms of hygiene, maintenance, sanitization and disinfecting on a regular basis. Simultaneously, the FDA will carry out a parallel drive to make sure that restaurants maintain overall hygiene measures. Even though we don’t have any confirmed cases, precautions are necessary to prevent the potential spread of this virus,” he said.
“Further,” he said, “in continuation of the strict measures taken by us to battle the widespread of Coronavirus, advisories will be issued to all hotels and restaurants to prevent mass gatherings above 25 in number, the file pertaining to which is already moved to the Government.”
“Besides, we are also talking to multiplexes to take stringent measures with regard to sanitisation. Today, during my discussion with one of the multiplexes they already have availed the handgun scanners for checking temperature, also as instructed they will be having disinfectants and sanitizers placed,” he said.
He continued stating, “We are making sure that all measures, as per the guidelines of the Government of India, are strictly followed”.
