The incident happened around 10.30 pm on Sunday. According to witnesses, both the victim and the accused were enjoying their drinks at a bar when Franky casually asked Cruz why he was going around and telling people about his drinking habits.
This led to an altercation. Sensing trouble, the bar owner Jose chased them out of the bar. Their quarrel intensified and Cruz, in a fit of anger, picked up a soda bottle and hit it on Franky’s head. Franky fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital. He died on his way. Cruz was arrested last night.
Both are residents of Zariwado. The police conducted the panchanama on Monday and have also taken the statements of the bar owner.
Police inspector of Maina Curtorim is heading the probe team. The police have registered a case of murder.
Local MLA Avertano Furtado visited the site of offence and has asked the police to conduct a thorough investigation.
