‘Potrkarita Puroskar’ for Borkar

MARGAO: Felicio Cardoso Potrkarita Puroskar’ for the year 2018 will be conferred on Dilip Borkar, a renowned Konkani journalist, litterateur, scriptwriter, stage personality, and editor of Konkani monthly ‘Bimb’.   
The award is instituted by ‘Felicio Cardoso-che Pattlavdar’ (FCP). It is awarded annually to a Goan journalist who has made a remarkable contribution to Goan society and journalism. The earlier recipients are: Prakash Kamat (2017), Sandesh Prabhudessai (2016) and Br. Eusebio Miranda (2015), says a press note issued by the convenor of the Trust.
The award will be presented to Borkar at a special function organised jointly by ‘Felicio Cardoso-che Pattlavdar’ and ‘Konkani Bhasha Mandal’, to be held on August 30, at 4 pm at Ravindra Bhavan, Black Box auditorium, to mark the 87th birth anniversary of Felicio Cardoso.
Renowned Konkani litterateur, journalist and activist Adv Uday Bhembre will be the chief guest and social worker Nelson Costa Pereira, will be the guest of honour. 
A workshop on journalism on the theme ‘Jivall Potrkarita, Jivall Somaz’ (Vibrant Journalism, Vibrant Society) will be conducted under the guidance of noted journalist and editor of ‘Lokmot’ Raju Nayak.
The personality for the award has been chosen by an experienced jury comprising Sandesh Prabhudesai, Marcos Gonsalves, Vincy Quadros, Guadalupe Dias and Sanjiv Verenkar.
Born on May 2, 1957, at Agasaim, Borkar completed his BA through Bombay University in 1980. He completed his MA in Hindi and Konkani through Goa University in 1990.  
A fine literature personality, Borkar has to his credit a number of books in Children’s literature such as Darya Sundari (lyrical story), Ashant Sushant and Pintuchi Kall Bhonvddi.
, Piso Laddko ani Shanno Paddko, Ranvs Pavlo Dubai, etc. Some of his novels are Ek Ankvar Diary (2011), Sakhi Vasundhara (2014), Uchamboll Dorya, Babloochim Patram, etc. ‘Povitr Korar’ is Borkar’s transcription in Devnagri Konkani of New Testament. 
Borkar’s Literary essays are Ruksha Prasna published in 1998, Shreyarthi – (Biographical Novel on Ravindra Kelekar) published in 2005 in Konkani and in 2010 in English and Borkari published in 2010.
A drama personality, Borkar acted in many dramas and won prizes. He acted in Marathi, Hindi Telefilms and Serials like Vadhachakra, Khatra, Aur Mandovi Bahti Rehi, etc. He has also written dramas, Vargashatru, Aunttichi Gadi, etc and one Act plays Cancer, Anandi Anand Maha Anand, etc.  His street play titled Aij Amchem Raj Ailem published in 1982 got him the KBM award.
Borkar’s travelogue ‘Gomachal Te Himachal’, published in 1989, bagged the Sahitya Academy Award fors 1995 and Kala Academy Award in 1985.
As a journalist, Borkar has contributed immensely towards Konkani journalism. Besides publishing and editing his own monthly, Bimb, since 2002, Borkar has regularly contributed his valuable features for Sunaprant, Gomantak, Navprabhas, Tarun Bharat, Lokmot, Goa Doot, Goencho Avaz and Gulab.
Borkar is the recipient of many awards including the State Cultural Award from Government of Goa for Literature, 2014-2015, Dr T. M. Pai Foundation Award 1999 for ‘Ruksha Prasna’, Sahitya Academy’s Bal Sahitya Award in 2015 for ‘Pintuchi Kall Bhoundi’, Journalism and Literary Award of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, 2012.
