Speaking during Zero Hour in the House on Thursday, the health minister said, “This is a major problem. The new nurses cannot replace the experienced ones during medical emergencies,” he said.
The minister was responding to apprehensions raised by Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar that the district hospital lacks medical facilities and faces staff shortage. Allaying the apprehension, D’Souza assured that things would be set right by April.
Former health minister Vishwajit Rane had voiced similar concern during the discussion on Wednesday stating the hospital does not have blood testing, sonography, x-ray and other facilities to cater to the requirements of patients.
In another Zero Hour mention, Bicholim Independent MLA Naresh Sawal demanded that the government take action to mitigate the menace of stray dogs considering that thousands of people are becoming victims of dog bites. “The population of stray dogs has increased. This is causing rabies, there are at least 40,000 to 45,000 stray dogs,” he told the House.
Meanwhile, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco brought the attention of the House to the illegal cutting of mangroves and filling of land at Patto, demanding action against this activity.
