Burglars lay siege to Margao town

MARGAO: Margao city reported a spate of burglaries in the last two days, even as unknown culprits made an abortive bid to lift away cash from an ATM of SBI's Gogol branch last night.

In the first case, unknown accused committed theft of gold ornaments, laptop and other articles totally amounting Rs 1.47 lakh from a flat at Nalanda apartments, Rawanfond, when the occupants were out.
A complaint has been filed by Adv Chethan Mhalsekar stating that the unknown accuse effected entry into his flat at Nalanda apartments when the family was out between July 5 and 7  by breaking the locks of an iron gate and the main door. When the family returned home on Sunday, they found the lock of the main door broken and the flat ransacked. Margao police PSI Melson Colaco is investigating the case.
In another case, unknown accused committed theft of two laptops, gold ornaments and cash Rs 8,500 from an apartment at Borda on Saturday night, all worth around Rs one lakh.
In his complaint, Minguel Fernandes stated that the accused entered his apartment at Laximi Apartments on July 6 night by breaking the latch of the main door and committed theft of gold items that included one bracelet bangle with elephant hair, one finger ring with elephant hair, one set containing finger ring, pendant and earring, two laptops Sony and HP and cash Rs 8,500 all worth Rs 99,500. PSI Ajit Umarye is investigating.
Meanwhile, the SBI Gogol branch manager Annesh Mhona has lodged a complaint with Margao police stating that some accused attempted to commit theft of money by breaking ATM at the branch.
