Cong supports bridge to Chorao

PANJIM: The Congress has come out in support of Chorao residents demanding for a bridge and urged the government to immediately start work on the proposed bridge connecting Chorao island.

Addressing the media, Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar pointed out that the ferry route from Madel to Ribandar is over-burdened as it is used by commuters from Chorao, Mayem, Bicholim, Sanquelim and surrounding areas, creating immense hardship especially at peak hours.
With no proper medical facilities available in and around the village, patients and relatives have to depend on ferries to travel to Panjim. This is one crucial reason, why the village needs to be connected with a bridge, he said.
Kawthankar demanded that work on the bridge commence on a war-footing and not to take the villagers for granted. “BJP came to power by giving several hopes and the promise of completion of Chorao bridge within a few months of coming to power, he said.
United Citizens of Chorao observed a token hunger strike on Monday at Maddel ferry point to press their demand for a bridge. They have threatened to intensify the agitation if the demand is not met.
