MARGAO: The Aquem Baixo gram sabha on Sunday witnessed a lengthy debate over the garbage problem playing the village.
Even as the villagers demanded that the panchayat start door to door collection of garbage, Sarpanch Sharon Quadros informed the members that collection was not an issue, adding that the village is facing the problem of garbage disposal. She pointed out that the panchayat has no place/site for disposal of garbage. The meeting resolved to approach local MLA and Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado to find out a solution to the vexed issue.
To a query raised by a gran sabha member Julio Quadros demanding details of expenditure incurred for pre-monsoon work in the village, the sarpanch informed that the same would be given/presented at the next gram sabha. Earlier the secretary read the minutes of last gram sabha meeting which were confirmed.
