PANJIM: Victim of a deadly attack at Fatorda, notorious gangster Shaikh Anwar, alias Tiger, faced his rival Ricky and his gang’s wrath due to an incident reported over a year ago. Anwar, recuperating at Goa Medical College and Hospital of serious injuries, had reportedly shaved Ricky’s cousin’s head in public.
This episode, sources said, irked Ricky, who probably decided to settle scores with Anwar and patiently waited for an opportunity to harm the latter. Sources told Herald that since Anwar was arrested in a case of gang rape in 2019, the plan was postponed until his release.

“Anwar had forcibly got Ricky’s cousin’s head shaved. The kin was also assaulted and managed to escape a chopper attack on him. Anwar’s rival gang decided to take revenge on him,” said the source.
Soon thereafter in November 2019, Anwar was arrested from a hideout at Saundatti (Karnataka) in a case of gang-rape. Since then, wanted in several serious offences, he had been lodged at Colvale Central Jail until his release somewhere around mid-2020. He soon landed in the police net after a young businessman accused him of assaulting and threatening to kill in a fit of road rage.
Simultaneously, an attack plan by his rival gang was taking shape as they waited for his release. There’s also another theory that provoked the attack on Anwar. Sources said that Anwar had been plotting revenge against Ricky for he assumed that the latter had leaked information to the police about his alleged involvement in an attempt to murder and abduction case.
While the investigation team is probing all angles, South Goa police confirmed that the attack on Anwar was a result of previous enmity. A massive manhunt has simultaneously been launched to trace the whereabouts of Imran Bepari and Velly D’Souza.
It has also come to the fore that ever since Anwar walked out of jail on conditional bail, he rarely made any public appearance until on Tuesday, when he was found alone walking on the street and was assaulted. The police are also unearthing details of the activities of all the accused, as well as of Anwar, during the past few months.
Herald has also learnt that externment proceedings against Anwar, pending since 2018 will come up for hearing before the South Goa Collector on February 25. On this day, the police are expected to submit updates of his criminal history besides the attack on him.
