Direct PWD to use only utility vehicles, Cabral tells Dhavalikar

PANJIM: Expressing concern over the use of luxury vehicles by the PWD, BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral wanted the PWD Minister Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar to give directions to his department that vehicles such as Chevrolet, Maruti Ertiga and Wagon R are not purchased by the department and only utility vehicles are used by them in the future.

Cabral was of the opinion that since these vehicles are for the PWD, they should be taken to serve a particular purpose and not for comfort. However, Dhavalikar in reply to this supplementary said that “We take tenders for all vehicles. We take vehicles as and when needed. And all rates which given are below par,” refusing to give such a commitment.
Initially, the PWD Minister told the House that no work order for hiring vehicles by PWD were given without any tenders, unless it is very important; and even then we will have to take the sanction of the government.
He was replying to a question by BJP MLAs Rajan Naik and Kiran Kandolkar on whether the tender procedure has been followed by the Public Works Department to take private vehicles on hire or whether they are taken on contract.
The MLAs also wanted to know the details of the type of vehicle hired, whether four wheeler or six wheelers, models of the vehicle, name of the owners, telephone numbers and address, registration number of the vehicle; the name of the driver and division-wise use of the said vehicles; and details of the officers that are using these vehicles, with their names and designation.
