Apostolic Carmelites are 251 years old

MARGAO: The Apostolic Carmelites celebrate the 251st year of their foundation on July 16 this year since their order was established in 1868 by Mother Veronica with Bishop Marie Ephrem as the mentor. Four of their congregation members have already been declared saints.
The order which has its headquarters in Bangalore is working states includingGoa and has the distinction of having 15 lakh students passing out from the 70 institutes it manages in Karnataka alone.
In Goa the order runs the Fatima Convent HS at Margao, St Mary’s HS at Mapusa, Holy Rosary Convent HS at Nuvem and Carmel College at Nuvem which is the only college for girls in Goa and also has a HSS.
Carmel College started in 1964 and was initially housed in the same premises where Holy Rosary Convent HS now operates and around 11,000 students have passed out from this college.
