PANJIM: Facing widespread criticism over the rates of toll fee for two-wheelers and exorbitant fee for four-wheelers, the State government is likely to withdraw the notification issued on November 3.
Though there is no decision yet, government sources told O Heraldo that the file has been resubmitted for further decision. Two ruling party MLAs had also made representations to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant urging him to withdraw the fee of Rs 10 for two-wheeler per trip, while the fee for three-wheelers and four-wheelers was increased from Rs 10 to Rs 40 per trip.
The new rates were supposed to come into effect from November 16 but faced stiff opposition from the islanders, who refused to pay the new toll fee claiming that they solely depend on ferryboats in the absence of no other alternative.
