VALPOI: Most of the students from Government Middle School, Valpoi, who reportedly fell sick after consuming Iron Folic Acid (IFA) tablets, attended the school on Wednesday after they were discharged from Community Health Centre (CHC) Valpoi.
It may be recalled that seven students from Std 6 and 7 from Government Middle School Valpoi were admitted to CHC Valpoi after they complained of stomachache and vomiting.
The students had consumed IFA tablets, which was part of the Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplement (WIFS) programme, jointly operated in government schools by the Directorate of Health Service, Department of Woman and Child Development and Directorate of Education, to address anemia among the adolescents.
All the students were discharged from the hospital on Monday evening, while other students who had complained of uneasiness on Monday morning soon after consuming the IFA tablets were treated in the school itself by CHC officials when school authority informed the matter to CHC.
Sources at CHC informed that all the students were brought to CHC on Monday after they consumed the IFA tablets on an empty stomach and hence they suffered from gastro problem.
Sources from school informed that the situation is under control and few students had attended the classes on Tuesday, while most students attended the school on Wednesday.
Sources further informed that PTA meeting has been called on Saturday and health officials are likely to make parents aware about the advantage of taking the IFA tablets to eradicate iron deficiency in students.
