MAPUSA: Viscount High School, Pernem defeated St Xavier’s High School Korgao to move ahead in the U16 Boys GCA Shri Dilip Sardessai tournament, organised by Goa Cricket Association. Pedne Zone played at Warkhand ground here on Thursday.
Electing to bat first, St. Xavier’s HS Korgao managed to post a paltry 66 in 23.5 over as they lost all their wickets.
Viscount HS’s Sunny Shetye’s brilliance with the ball restricted the opponents from going any further as he picked six wickets giving away just 23 runs. Tanay Shet was the other bowler who impressed with the figures of 18/3.
For St Xavier’s HS, Deepraj Salgaonkar (20) was the top run getter while Javed Naik scored 10 as the duo were the only bastsmen to reach the double figures.
Chasing a low target, St Xavier’s HS lost early wickets in the game and it looked threatening as Sahil Korgaonkar picked four wickets for 23 runs. However, Viscount’s Babu Kharvat kept his composure on the field as he remained 22 not out to guide his team to a four wicket win in just 14.4 overs. Atharv Teli contributed with 16 runs before he was sent back to the pavilion.
Adrian D’Souza was the other wicket getter for St Xavier’s as he picked 2.
St Xavier’s were good at fielding but their batsmen let them down setting up a low target which was their disadvantage.
