PONDA: The Ponda locals along with Bandora Panchayat Panch on Friday raised concern over the water stagnation at Sulabh Shauchalaya of KTC bus stand, here, fearing it could be a breeding ground for the mosquitoes and inviting diseases spread like Malaria and dengue.
The locals demanded that the government give serious attention to the maintenance of inter-State KTC bus stand building that was built in 1992 and lying in a dilapidated condition.

Panch Rajesh Naik said, “Gutter and drains are not cleaned for several years by the KTC. The locals fear it may lead to spread of malaria and dengue as it is situated close to toilet complex tank. The KTC bus stand building condition is dilapidated due to negligence in maintenance.”
“The KTC authorities and Transport Minister should give attention to the maintenance of bus stand. The locals fear that overflowing tank of Sulabh Shauchalaya poses risk of spreading malaria and dengue in the vicinity,” he added.
The Panch said, “The KTC toilet has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Before it poses risk to the lives of locals, the KTC officials and Transport Minister Mauvin Godhino should seriously look into the maintenance of the toilet.”
“The KTC earns around 14 lakh yearly due to the bus stand and shops operating. But not a single rupee is spent on the maintenance. Even stray animals die at the bus stand which is deposed off by Bandora Panchayat. The approach roads of the bus stand are also not maintained properly,” Naik alleged.
“The KTC building is also in dilapidated condition. Last year, a portion collapsed and the passengers were injured. However, no attention is given to repair the bus stand. The inter-State bus stand has not been painted for the past so many years. Several trees have been uprooted around the bus stand,” he added.
