PANJIM: The Congress party today launched a scathing attack on the government for taking a loan of whopping more than Rs 1,297 crore in one year since coming to power.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, party spokesman Sudip Tamhankar maintained that the government’s borrowings were burdening the common men.
Presenting figures sought from RTI, he informed, “From March 9, 2012 to March 30, 2013, the government has borrowed a total of Rs 12,97,85,37,990 loan.
Between March 9 and September 18, 2012, Rs 743 crore was taken while from January 9 till March 30, 2013, over Rs 554 crore was borrowed.
He further revealed the government through EDC took a loan of Rs 100 crore for Goa State Infrastructure Corporation Ltd on October 17, 2012; Rs 125 crore for Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd on November 9, 2012 and Rs 15 crore for Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd on March 30, 2013.
Tamhankar took a dig at Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar over cabinet reshuffle following performance audit of his ministers.
“He (Parrikar) should first conduct audit of his own performance. He has been a failure in all portfolios he holds. He should change his portfolios instead,” he remarked.
He also ridiculed Parrikar’s restrictions for obtaining information through RTI. Parrikar on Friday warned that cases where people are found spending money disproportionate to their known sources of earning to procure information under the RTI Act will be referred to Income Tax department.
Earlier to this, Parrikar made it mandatory for those seeking RTI replies to prove their nationality.
