NUVEM: Kirbhatt edged past Lee Royale Cupem 2-1, to clinch the trophy of the inter-ward football tournament, at the Jesus Mary Joseph Church ground, Nuvem, recently.
Both the team played attacking football at the same time guarded their defence well; both the teams got their share of chances however fumbled at the goal.
Standley D’mello and Micky Dias stood up for Le Royal Cupem while Gammy Costa, Shawn Pereira and Standly put up a show for Kirbhat.
In the 3rd minute of play Lee Royal through Sadrick Borges got an opportunity to score after a well combined move by Socorro Colaco however he shot wide.
The 5th minute saw Lee Royal’s Fr Soccoro Colaco roll the ball to Sandrick Borges who amended his previous mistake and shot straight into the goal through a long ranger giving his team the desired lead.
Kirbhat within four minutes levelled terms with Le Royal through Gammy Costa’s carpet drive shot off Shawn Pereira’s connect.
The match winner for Kirbhat was scored by Preston Pereira with a left footer sailed into the net in the 16th minute.
Kirbhat were awarded Rs 15,000 plus trophy while Le Royal had to content with Rs 10,000 and trophy.
Best forward of the final was awarded to Cedrick Borges, best defender of the final to Tinu Pereira (Cupem), best goalkeeper, Minguel Colaco (Lee Royal), best player Gammy Costa (Kirbhat).
Special Invitees for the finals were Wilfred D’Sa (Babashan, ZP member nuvem), Joaquim Abranches, Jose Oliveira, George Fernandes, who also gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of other dignitaries and club officials.
President Baptisto Colaco, Secretary Minguel Colaco introduced the players to the guests.
