PANJIM: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa condemned the move of the Central government to demarcate some of the State’s district and village roads as highways.
AAP said that the State government should reject the proposal and abort the move to re-designate these roads as highways.
AAP State Convener Elvis Gomes said that the move is not in the interest of the State and the locals.
“It’s a senseless move. What benefits or difference it makes by merely giving roads the status of ‘highways’ on paper? It should be rejected by the State,” Gomes said.
AAP had also strongly condemned the NDA government for raising the prices of domestic cooking fuel stating it is a criminal neglect.
Over 500 AAP volunteers converged at the Neura panchayat on Saturday for a day-long conclave and later held a protest dharna against the BJP government’s perceived insensitivity towards the common man whose household budgets have skyrocketed due to the economically illogical increase in LPG prices over the last six months when global oil prices are plunging.
AAP leaders including the State convener Elvis Gomes, Secretary Prakash Naik, former secretary and Panjim candidate Valmiki Naik, State Campaign Committee chairperson Rajashree Nagarsekar, party candidates who contested the recently held Goa Assembly elections and hundreds of volunteers from across the State joined the protest to highlight the rising costs of living and the government’s lack of concern for the ordinary citizens.
