Porvorim Police Busts Illegal Online Cricket Betting Operation in Socorro, Four Arrested

In a significant crackdown on illegal online gambling, Porvorim Police successfully busted an illicit cricket betting operation in Socorro, leading to the arrest of four individuals involved in the activity.

Acting on a tip received on Friday night, Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parab orchestrated a raid on a residence in Kamat Nagar, Socorro, suspected to be the hub of online cricket betting operations. The police seized crucial evidence, including laptops and mobile phones used for accepting bets on various cricket leagues, with an estimated worth of Rs 1.5 lakh.

The four arrested individuals have been identified as Tejeshwar Rao (24) from Durg, Chattisgarh, Gagan Kumar Suman (23) from Madhya Pradesh, Mukesh Kumar Jat (21) from Rajasthan, and Karan Pal (25) from Madhya Pradesh.

The accused are now facing charges under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman, and Diu Public Gambling Act. The raiding team, led by Inspector Rahul Parab, included PSI Sitaram Malik, PSI Sanket Talkar, and constables Mahadev Naik, Utkarsh Dessai, Bhikaji Parab, Yogesh Shinde, Siddhesh Naik, and Nitesh Gaude.

Illegal online betting and gambling have been a growing concern, prompting law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to curb such activities. The successful operation by Porvorim Police is a testament to their commitment to maintaining law and order and curbing illicit activities that compromise the integrity of sports and lead to unlawful financial gains.
