MAPUSA: The attack against GoaMiles taxi operators continues in the State with two different incidents being reported at Calangute and Anjuna in North Goa on Wednesday.
GoaMiles driver, Zamir Sayed was allegedly assaulted and abused by an individual in front of a hotel at Anjuna on Wednesday at 12.00 pm. The victim lodged a complaint at Anjuna Police station stating that some unknown local taxi drivers wrongfully restrained him while he was proceeding with his customer in a Toyota vehicle. He added that he was later abused and that the accused came to assault him. A case was registered under section 341,352, 504 read with 34 of IPC. Later in the day, Anjuna Police arrested Yoguesh Govekar in connection with this crime.
This is the second consecutive attack on a GoaMiles taxi driver in Anjuna. On Tuesday, Shaikh Arunbasha was allegedly assaulted and abused by an individual near an Anjuna based resort. Further investigation in both the cases is in progress.
In another incident reported in Calangute, an offence under section 341, 504 323 read with 34 of IPC was registered at Calangute Police Station on Wednesday. This was in connection to the written complaint of 39-year-old Baina resident GoaMiles taxi driver Meghu Naik. He stated that around 1 pm, near a hotel in Calangute, Ramrao Parsekar, Jitendra Parsekar along with one more person wrongfully restrained him, abused him in filthy language and further assaulted him with fist blows and slaps on his face thereby causing injuries. Ramrao and Jitendra were arrested and subsequently released on bail. The police have moved RTO Mapusa for suspension of the taxi permit and the motor driving license of the accused persons. In addition, the police have filed chapter case proceedings against the accused taxi drivers before the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Mapusa so as to deter them from commission of cognisable offence in the future. Further investigation is in progress.
