MMC, police told to raze hutments
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, JUNE 23
Residents of Modsai-Fatorda have petitioned to the Margao Municipal Council and the police to raze down illegal hutments erected in the property of Lar De Estudantes, belonging to the Church.
The residents were surprise to find the hutments in the property and inquiries only revealed that the huts were erected by the workers hired by a contractor executing work of a government agency in the locality.
Local NGO Collective People’s Voice of South Goa headed by Croydon Medeira and other residents later approached the Vicar of Holy Spirit Church, Fr Ventura Lourenco, who along with the residents inspected the property
Medeira said Fr Lourenco made it very clear that no permission was given to anyone to put up the hutments in the area and termed the structures as illegal.
The residents have now demanded demolition of the hutments at the earliest or threatened to take action against the illegal structures if the authorities turns a blind eye.
Medeira warned that the authorities will be squarely blamed if any law and order situation takes place in the area over the hutments.
