MARGAO: The Dalgado Konkani Akademy (DKA) is all set to launch courses in Konkani in Roman script in the month of June disclosed its general secretary Vincy Quadros while speaking to some Konkani writers in Roman script at Margao.
The writers had met to discuss various issues pertaining to literature in Roman script and one of the issues raised for standardization of the language and setting in place the basic methods of writing including grammar.
That is when Vincy made the announcement that the courses should be started in June 2019. In fact Vincy had earlier stated that the books to help conduct the courses would be published by December 2018 but that did not happen.
Editor of Konkani magazine Gulab Fausto V da Costa lamented that some writers in Roman Konkani are even making factual errors and asserted that such articles should not be published till they are written properly.
Noted Konkani writer Marcus Gonsalves’ suggestion that established writers adopt some new writers to guide them in their writings was accepted by those present after much discussion on the modalities of undertaking this exercise.
It was also suggested that DKA be strict while publishing books by new writers and insist on the author using proper language. Vincy admitted that they are a little lax with the first book but asserted that they are strict with subsequent scripts.
Recognising Konkani in Roman script as official language of Goa was also discussed and it was felt that a legal opinion will have to be obtained on this matter that is hanging fire for many years.
